Information for Makers
PLEASE NOTE THAT APPLICATIONS FOR OCTOBER 2021 WILL OPEN IN AUGUST
Thanks for your interest in Super Seconds Saturday! Are you a maker who is interesting in joining in? Great! You can find out more below! If you have any further questions, please get in touch with Sophie from Ink & Bear, who is the organiser of Super Seconds Saturday. I'm available on or over on Instagram (www.instagram.com/inkandbear).
Who can get involved in Super Seconds Saturday?
Super Seconds Saturday is for independent businesses who make/design their own work - the event was set up by Ink & Bear as a response to a lack of fairs in 2020 where makers were unable to sell seconds/misprints at stalls like we normally would! This is the perfect opportunity to sell off seconds/misprints/old stock - the only stipulation to get involved is that you're an indie business owner who designs/makes their own work and that you can offer discounts!
This online fair will be accessed through this website and makers will be added to categories; categories will include jewellery, ceramics, prints, art & cards, kids stuff, fabric goods & accessories, homeware and marvellous makers (for those who make a bit of everything or don't fit in the categories above!). Check out some of the makers below involved last February.
How do I get involved?
Thank you for your interest in Super Seconds Saturday for October 2021. The joining form for makers will open on 4th August via my newsletter and spots will be offered to makers on a first come, first served basis! Slots filled up quickly last time (especially for printmakers and marvellous makers) so if you're interested please set an alarm and keep your eyes peeled for the link which I will share to my newsletter subscribers first on 4th August! Please sign up to the Ink & Bear Newsletter (link here!) to keep in the loop.
I think spots will go quickly from 4th August! So to enable makers to be prepared in the best way possible I have popped some top tips below and an idea of what info I will need from you (your spot is only confirmed when I have the form AND the £16 joining fee to my Paypal account):
Please have 2 square photos ready to submit (one of your products/a sample product and one of yourself)- the product photo will be used for Instagram promotion on Ink & Bear's page and the catalogue. To see examples of good photos please see the examples of makers' product photos on this page. Please make sure you submit a photo you're happy with as it will be tricky to change this later!
Be ready with a 100 character bio. The form will ask you to provide a brief description (up to 100 characters) to be used as a tagline. Please see the catalogue from last February for examples of this.
Have your Paypal account and Google account signed in and ready to go. Your spot isn't confirmed until I've received the fee and your Google form!
Be ready with the info the form needs! The form will ask you for your Instagram page, email address and your chosen category.
Know which website you'd like to send buyers to. Get your website address ready with where you'd like buyers to land. *More important info on this below!
Have a think about whether you'd like to join a Zoom panel this year and what topic you might be able to help with a Q&A on (e.g. top tips for SSS, Etsy tips, etc.). The panels are to help other makers to prepare for Super Seconds Saturday (this is a fabulous opportunity to promote your business as well!).
*Last time makers really liked having a Super Seconds Saturday landing page (e.g. https://jenniesergeantdesigns.co.uk/pages/super-seconds-saturday) with more info on. If you'd like to do this please make sure you include the exact link you'd like to send people to. Please note that buyers will be accessing your site in the month before Super Seconds Saturday to plan their shopping list for the big day - so it makes sense to add info/sneak previews on a specific landing page so they know what to expect! Please note that whilst makers who sell only on Instagram via stories/DM/Posts will be ok to take part, this isn't encouraged as a way of selling as many buyers have fed back that they find this a tricky way to buy!
What do I get as a maker involved in Super Seconds Saturday?
There is a £16 joining fee to get involved as a maker - for the joining fee you'll be:
Featured as a maker on this website under categories (e.g. jewellery, ceramics, prints and cards, etc.). Please note that the sooner you sign up the better, as I will be listing makers in the order they apply under each category. There will be up to 250 makers involved - ionce a category is filled up I will be closing each category.
Access to a private Facebook group for makers to support each other in the run up to the event - this is a great peer to peer network! This private group will include top tip videos/info and a space to ask as many questions as you like about Super Seconds Saturday!
Promoted on Ink & Bear's Instagram as being involved in Super Seconds Saturday - via stories and/or posts.
An opportunity to get involved in Instagram Lives in the run up to help promote your business - this will be done on a raffle basis if lots of people want to get involved!
The perfect opportunity to save on waste, sell off old stock and make some room. Makers also said it was the perfect testing bed for new ideas as they knew they had a space to sell testers! Last time 75% of makers (from a survey of 121 makers involved in Super Seconds Saturday in Feb 2021) said that they made more sales than they were expecting!
Learning opportunities - Access to feedback after the event about what worked and what could have been improved so you can learn for future events!
An opportunity to be involved with a wonderful, supportive group of indie makers! We collectively will use a hashtag to bring us together through an Instagram challenge in the run up, and then on the day so buyers have the website and Instagram as a way to find bargains!
